Oprah Winfrey, who has reigned as day time’s talk show queen since 1986, is ready for it to end. With only three more episodes to air and one more episode to tape, viewers and advertisers aren’t seeing the end quite the same way.

Vicksburg Prepares for Flood Cleanup

Vicksburg, Mississippi is bracing for weeks of aggressive cleanup after the Mississippi River crested there during the recent flood.

"We are urging everyone to be patient," Mayor Paul Winfield told Reuters on Saturday. "They need to stay away from their homes and their properties until they're given clearance."

Over 2,000 residents and business evacuated Vicksburg. Thousands of acres of corn and cotton fields were flooded after weeks of heavy rain and runoff from a severe winter left the river at historically high levels.

Israel Denies Ill Will Towards US

Israel is trying to downplay reports of a crisis in their relationship with the United States.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was frank in his rejection and criticism of President Barack Obama's proposed foundation for future Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. The media seized upon this and, according to Netanyahu, their accounts "have been blown way out of proportion," as he told the Associated Press.

"It's true we have some differences of opinion, but these are among friends," Netanyahu continued to AP.

Breast cancer patients who participate in yoga experience less stress and a higher quality of life compared to patients who do stretching exercises or who don't exercise according to a recent U.S. study.

AFP Relax reports that researchers from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center studied 163 women with an average age of 53 who were undergoing radiation therapy for early onset through stage 3 breast cancer.

Mitch Daniels has said thanks but no, thanks about running for President this year. The Republican Governor of Indiana was seen as the strongest possible candidate to oppose President Obama. In a email to supporters, Daniels said, “In the end, I was able to resolve every competing consideration but one, but that, the interests and wishes of my family, is the most important consideration of all.”

Smallpox Scab Removed from Exhibit by the CDC

A 135-year-old smallpox scab was removed by the CDC from the Virginia Historical Society’s “Bizarre Bits” exhibit to ensure it was not infectious according to ABC’s Good Morning America.

The scab was found carefully wrapped inside an 1876 letter from a Richmond man to his father. It was intended for use as immunization.

Gay Marriage Now Supported by Majority of Americans

 

Gay marriage support in the United States has crept upwards to include a majority of Americans, according to a new Gallup poll.

Reuters reports that 53 percent of Americans polled by Gallup said they support making gay marriage legal, a reversal from one year ago when the same amount said they opposed same-sex matrimony.

Vermont Single-Payer Health Care Closer to Becoming a Reality

 

Vermont has taken a significant step towards becoming the first state in US to adopt a single-payer health care system, according to the New York Times.

Vermont's Democratic governor, Peter Shumlin, is expected to sign a bill on Thursday that would put the state on a track toward an adjusted single-payer system with private health insurers competing alongside a government-run option for individuals.
